Programming Workshop #1
In this first meeting, we decided to probe at the softer, warm fuzzy, less tangible, and more visceral side of educational programming for their Pre-K - 5th grade school. Not only are we trying to see and understand who Thoroughgood is, but we want to help them see themselves. Once we share this understanding, we have found that common place to start doing what we do best.
Doctors help patients “HEAL” Teachers help students “LEARN” Architects help clients “SEE” |
We inspired them with beautiful precedent images of other educational environments to broaden their understanding of what is possible. We showed a TED TALK of a Japanese architect who has designed a very special Kindergarten school in Japan. This school is loaded with ideas representational of the POWER OF ARCHITECTURE and how good architecture really can change the way children interact, develop a sense of community, and feel safe with one another.
The family of topics and request of descriptions in this first meeting brought this core planning group together on a level far beyond what we anticipated. They are excited, anxious, and curious but mostly have started on this journey with confidence and the belief that this is more than a DREAM! |
